Mendon May Day— 1961Crowning of 1961 Queen of the May, Carolyn Larsen

Mendon Prepares For May Festival Saturday— Plans for Mendon’s traditional May Day celebration are going forward with the event scheduled for Saturday, May 6th, under the supervision of the Sunday school superintendency, Zeno Andersen, Floyd Roundy, Ronald Jensen and the officers and teachers. All events will take place on the church lawn beginning at 10:30 a.m. Carolyn Larsen daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Larsen will reign as May Queen. She will be crowned by her consort, Wayne Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Anderson. In the queen’s court will be Linda Yonk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Yonk; Clare Andersen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Zeno Andersen; Fawn Sorensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Kay Sorensen; Michael Bowen, son of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Bowen; Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Anderson; Vaughan Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver H. Peterson; Kathleen Whitney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orlynn Whitney; David Buist, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Buist; Jeanette Castleberry, who is making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Lemuel R. Earl; John Olsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Olsen. Crown bearer and flower girl will be Val and Jean Sorensen, small son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Sorensen. Thirty little girls dressed in this year’s May Day colors of red and white will dance the maypole under the direction of Mellree Andersen and Mozelle Sorensen. A program will follow the coronation ceremonies. In the afternoon there will be a children’s dance, races, ball games and sports. A dance at 9:00 p.m. will conclude the day’s festivities. Mendon’s May Festival Saturday— May Day Festivities will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on Mendon square with the crowning of Carolyn Larsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Larsen, as May Queen, by her consort, Wayne Anderson. Members of her court are Linda Yonk, Clare Andersen, Fawn Sorensen, Michael Bowen, Elizabeth Anderson, Vaughan Peterson, Kathleen Whitney, David Buist, Jeanette Castleberry and John Olsen. Val and Jean Sorensen will be crown bearer and flower girl. Following the dancing of the maypole by thirty little girls, a program will be presented in the chapel. In the afternoon there will be a children’s dance, races, ball games and sports. In the evening the dance will begin at nine o’clock. In charge of the day are members of the Sunday school superintendency, Zeno Andersen, Floyd Roundy, Ronald Jensen and the officers and teachers.
